About You

You have a proven track record of leading engineering teams with specialized skills and abilities. You understand how to care for and support the people around you. You are a hands-on leader with architecture and coding skills. You establish processes for software development that support continuous delivery and continuous improvement. You have a track record of analyzing teams and systems and identifying the path to a stable and reliable build, deploy, and production operations. You can pivot quickly between being a teacher and being a student. You are humble with a sense of humor and don’t take yourself too seriously. You have been working in or dreamed of working in the gaming industry and are ready to turn your talents towards chess

What You’ll Do

As the leader of the Analysis & Core Chess team, you’ll be responsible for the people on the team, their wellbeing, happiness, growth and capacity allocations.  You’ll also be responsible for supporting and executing the product roadmap and ensuring a scalable foundation of technology and architecture for the future.  You will:

  • Work with your team to scale the system and software architecture for chess game analysis and other production services
  • Work with product teams and engineers to execute project plans to deliver epics and milestones
  • Manage the team day-to-day and quarter-to-quarter (growth, development, hiring)
  • Manage capacity, predict progress, and be accountable for the commitments of the team
  • Create a collaborative environment where people can do their best work
  • Communicate across teams to identify and align dependencies 
  • Continuously improve your craft as a coach/leader, designing relationships that build trust and level up the coaching abilities of the people around you

  • Hands on coding skills in JavaScript, TypeScript, C++
  • Hybrid datacenter + distributed compute experience
  • Chess engine knowledge

About the Opportunity

  • This is a full-time or equivalent position
  • We are 100% remote (work from anywhere!)
