About You

You’ll work with our HR team in support of all efforts across 'employee relations', compensation, HRIS management, onboarding/offboarding, performance management, compliance, and more. You’re comfortable and confident working in a start-up like environment, and can quickly shift focus to match changing needs. You care deeply about others and effectively balance compassion with professionalism and detail-oriented work. You have a passion for chess (no matter your rating) and growing the game.

What You’ll Do

  • With the HR team’s support, serve as primary point-of-contact regarding benefits and policies
  • Facilitate staffing changes, onboarding, offboarding, and other sensitive HR matters
  • Conduct 1-on-1s and provide manager coaching on feedback, challenges, and other people management topics
  • Support and lead staff in their professional development including recommending specific trainings and sharing resources
  • Contribute to ideation and drive implementation of culture and wellness programs to benefit all team members
  • Facilitate the development and maintenance of a goals and growth (performance management) program
  • Create and own team member experience feedback loops across the team
  • Manage recurring and ad hoc data requests (ie. reporting requests)
  • Support with administrative needs like verification of employment requests
  • Process & manage compensation, title, department and reporting structure changes
  • Actively contribute to Chess.com’s positive and global culture
  • As part of a rapidly growing organization, embrace change and the shift of responsibilities over time

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or related majors
  • Professional certification (SPHR, PHR, SHRM-SCP, SHRM-CP) not required, but a plus
  • 8+ years of experience in HR as a Generalist or Manager for tech or software companies
  • Start-up or small team experience a plus
  • Experience working with international teams; success in remote, a-sync environments a plus
  • Possess strong logical thinking and problem solving ability
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Sense of ownership and responsibility
  • Take an entrepreneurial approach to their work and learning new skills
  • Chess player
  • Lifelong learner

About the Opportunity
