About You

You love data and shaping it to produce business insight. And you have great experience with the types of data questions relevant to a SaaS/gaming business (retention, engagement, monetization, cohort analysis etc.).

Moreover, you love what data tells you, and you are eager to get your hands on the treasure trove of Chess.com data to see what you can learn about the game, the players, and the business.

You’re looking to use your skills to work at a company that you actually care about (and that actually cares about you!). You are a seasoned analyst with intuitive strategic, communication and technical skills.

What You’ll Do

  • Dive into our data to discover insights into subscriber trends, player behavior, and user segments
  • Develop AB-testing and other analytical tools that ease the insight generation process
  • Use BigQuery SQL to create robust data pipelines
  • Orchestrate our data processing using Airflow
  • Help bring new data sources online and set up new pipelines
  • Work closely with analysts and engineers on data capture upcoming data needs and enhance existing datasets and 3rd party data injections, or build new ones to fill those needs
  • Collaborate with and mentor analysts/data-scientists in building scalable analyses and datasets
  • Develop tools and best practices to ensure high data quality and identify and prevent errors before they reach production datasets
  • Contribute to comprehensive documentation of tools and datasets

Preferred Skills

  • 3+ years of data analytics experience
  • 3+ years experience with a scripting language e.g. Python
  • Strong SQL skills (we use BigQuery and some MySQL)
  • Experience with designing, running, and evaluating large-scale online experiments
  • Experience working with data in a cloud environment e.g. Gcloud, AWS, or Azure
  • Experience in conducting ETL / ELT with large datasets and handling DAG data dependencies. Experience with Airflow is a bonus.
  • Experience with customer lifecycle analysis typical of SaaS and/or Gaming companies (retention, LTV, engagement, monetization, cohort analysis, etc.)
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills working in a fully distributed team
  • Puts value building strong relationships with colleagues and partners, enjoys mentoring and guiding others and you have the ability to explain complex topics in simple terms

About the Opportunity

  • This is a full-time position
  • We are 100% remote (work from anywhere!)
  • This role is open to applicants who can work in American or EMEA timezones.
